Implementation of Real-time Wireless Communication for Reliable Control of Distributed Power Electronic Systems
SA/MA project to identify and evaluate real-time wireless communication methods to control multiple power electronic systems and electrical actuators.
Keywords: wireless communication, real-time, reliable, power electronic systems, intereference sources
The electrification of construction machinery, such as excavators, has recently
been gaining popularity due to numerous technical, economical, and
ecological benefits.
At HPE, concepts to replace hydraulic actuators with electrical counterparts
are investigated. An excavator arm consists of multiple actuator
in series. Reliable real-time communication is necessary to control these
actuators and their associated power electronic systems. The SyCCo Bus
(Synchronous Converter Control Bus) is a suitable communication protocol
developed at HPE for optical links based on Ethernet.
In this project, you will adapt the SyCCo Bus to work wirelessly (instead
of optically) across multiple excavator joints. Thereby, you will identify
and commission suitable transceivers to work with custom antenna setups
(FEM simulation and prototype construction) and adapt the existing VHDL
code for the SyCCo Bus (if necessary).
