Hybrid Climbing Robot incorporating bio-inspired design and control
Robots capable of climbing vertical or near-vertical surfaces are currently the subject of extensive technologically innovative research. Climbing abilities in animals have inspired many capabilities in scansorial robots. This project aims to develop a bioinspired climbing robot. The role of the student is to integrate rotors and biomimetic materials to create a wheg-based terrestial robot, leveraging research from Soft Kinetic Group at Empa. For control of the climbing robot the student will leverage neuromorphic computing hardware and neural-network based algorithms developed at the Neuromorphic Computing Group at ZHAW.
